Our Founder

Sharon L. Nicka, RN, CPC is the Founder and President of Nicka & Associates, Inc. formally known as FRPC. She is a nationally renowned expert in emergency medicine coding, compliance, consulting and reimbursement. Mrs. Nicka brings over thirty years of emergency department management and healthcare consulting experience to each of her endeavors. She is an active member of the American College of Emergency Physician's Committee on Coding and Nomenclature and a previous expert witness for Medicare. Mrs. Nicka has had the opportunity to not only contribute but to shape the framework of emergency department coding.

In the role of president and senior advisor at Nicka & Associates, Mrs. Nicka is responsible for professional and facility coding, ED compliance issues, physician education and acts as a liaison for Medicare and Medicaid service bureaus. She is also a regularly featured columnist for Emergency Physician's Monthly, and is frequently asked to serve as a keynote speaker at coding, reimbursement and compliance conferences around the country. She has also provided services as an editorial consultant for St. Anthony's Reimbursement in Emergency Medicine Manual, co-authored the initial Texas ACEP Reimbursement Manual, publishes a quarterly newsletter - News from Nicka - and has successfully written in-house educational manuals for use in emergency medicine reimbursement.

Prior to founding Nicka & Associates, Mrs. Nicka was Co-Owner, Executive Vice President and COO of a successful start-up company, Innovative Practice Management Services (IPMS). IPMS specialized in emergency medicine and radiology billing, coding, collections and physician education. Additional positions held include Vice President of Practice Management for a major health care service company, Vice President of Reimbursement and Managed Care Services at QuestCare and Director of Reimbursement and Practice Management at EMCARE.
